Publication of NGO’s DIRECTORY OF INSTITUTIONS FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN & RPWD ACT PROVISIONS (2016), December 2020, Nagpur, MS, India.

The NGO’s Directory of Institutions for Special Children and RPWD Act Provisions (2016) was published and released in the month of December 2020 at Nagpur, at the hands of Honourable Shri Nitin Jayram Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways & MSME, GOI.

This was a unique project of COMHAD, the first of its kind published to date. In this Directory, there is the inclusion of contact details, gathered from reliable sources, of various Institutions of Specially Challenged run by various NGOs, Government and private institutions all over Maharashtra. There is also the inclusion of details of RPWD Act Provisions (2016) which will make the society aware of educational, vocational, and employment-related information and provisions available for the specially challenged board examinations.

The Directory is a brainchild of our innovative Executive Director Dr. Uday Bodhankar who has taken the initiative. The gigantic work of compiling the data alphabetically – place and speciality wise in this unique Directory were fruitful with the immense efforts of Dr Jaya Shiwalkar and Dr Dinesh Saroj followed by meticulous editing by Dr Shrikant Chorghade.

This Directory will benefit various institutions and professionals working in the field of specially challenged.

Medical Help Project at Mhasurli, Taluka Radhanagari, Dist Kolhapur on Farmer’s Day,23 December 2020.

COMHAD along with Rotaract Club of Kolhapur Midtown Phoenix, Rotary Club of Kolhapur Midtown, and Sanghavi Indumatidevi Babhutmalji Pratishthan Kolhapur hold a very innovative project for farmers of the village Mhasurli, Taluka Radhanagari, Dist Kolhapur on the auspicious occasion of Farmer’s Day on 23rd December 2020.

Mhasurli village is situated at the extremes of Radhanagari taluka, where basic medical services are not available and the people have to suffer from health problems, accidents, and poisoning, etc.

Knowing this situation, the project was taken. These “First Aid Kits” were distributed to the farmers and they were guided on how to use them in an emergency till they reach to nearby health facility center.

President of Rotaract Club of Kolhapur Midtown Phoenix Rtr Nikhil Koli, Project Chairman Rtr Abhishek Kamble, Rtr Prathamesh Suryawanshi, Rtr Chaitanya Nilkanthanawar, Rtr Akshay Kamble, Rtr Atharv Gaikwad, Rtr Amit Yadav, Rtr Naren Patil & Rtn Vinod Jadhav were present. The project was completed under the guidance of President of Rotary Club of Kolhapur Mid Town Rtn Aniket Ashtekar, Secretary Rtn Aket Shah & Dr. Prakash Sanghavi Vice President COMHAD the UK, and Director of Sanghavi Hospital. Prakash Gatade of Umed Foundation played a very vital role too. Total beneficiaries were about 80.

COMHAD Corona Warriors Felicitation, Raj Bhavan, Nagpur, MS, India. 16 January 2021

COMHAD bestowed upon and presented the honour of COMHAD Corona Warrior Award to the eminent members of COMHAD at the hands of Honourable Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan on dated 16th January 2021. The Guest of Honour of the function was Hon Padma Shree Dr Vikas Mahatme MP Rajya Sabha GOI. The introduction and overview of the programme was given by Dr Uday Bodhankar.

Webinar on Environmental Issues in Relation to Developmental Disability: Causes and Prevention, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, 21 January 2021

The seminar on Environmental Issues in Relation to Developmental Disability: Causes and Prevention was organized by COMHAD India Chapter in association with Divecha Centre for Climate Change Indian Institute of Science and Lakeside Education Trust, Bengaluru on Thursday dated 21 January 2021 at 4 PM (IST) on Microsoft Teams virtual platform.

The programme started with a welcome speech by Prof J. Srinivasan Director of DCCC IIs. Followed by Prof Dr H Paramesh introduced the chairperson of the seminar Prof M S Mahadeviah and speaker Dr Satish Girimaji and gave introductory remarks.

The faculty for this seminar was Dr Satish C. Girimaji who is currently Senior Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Dean (Behavioural Sciences) at NIMHANS, Bangalore.

Closing remarks were given by Prof M S Mahadeviah. This was followed by a question-answer session.The total beneficiaries were about 100.

The faculty for this seminar was the National President of COMHAD India Chapter Prof Dr H Paramesh, who is a distinguished visiting Professor at Divecha Centre for Climate Change Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.The total beneficiaries were about 50.

The seminar on Environmental Issues in Prevention of Congenital and Acquired Heart Diseases, was organized by COMHAD India Chapter in association with Divecha Centre for Climate Change Indian Institute of Science and Lakeside Education Trust, Bengaluru on Thursday, 25 February 2021 at 5.30 PM (IST) on Microsoft Teams virtual platform, on the occasion of World CHD Day.

The programme started with a welcome speech by Prof. S.K Satheesh / Prof. J Srinivasan. Prof J. Srinivasan Director of DCCC IIs. Followed by Prof Dr. H Paramesh introduced the chairperson and speaker and gave introductory remarks.

The faculty for this seminar was Padma Shree Prof. Dr. C.N Manjunath, who is currently Director and Prof. of Cardiology, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Bengaluru.

Chairperson Dr A. C. Sriram gave closing remarks and followed by a conducted question-answer session. A vote of thanks was given by Dr C. P. Ravi Kumar, National Secretary COMHAD India Chapter.The total beneficiaries were about 100.

Webinar on Study-Skill and Career Guidance for Students with Learning Disability, Nagpur, MS, India 27 February 2021

The seminar on Study-Skill and Career Guidance for students with Learning Disability was organized by COMHAD in association with SOHAM Foundation Nagpur on Saturday, 27 February 2021 at 4.00 PM (IST) on a Virtual platform. c The program started with a welcome speech by Mr. Sanjay Awachat, President of SOHAM Foundation Nagpur and Social Reformist working for wellbeing of LD & ID students.

This was followed by an introduction and overview of the problem of Learning Disability by Dr. Uday Bodhankar, Executive Director COMHAD and Deputy Chairperson CHPA UK. Dr. Jaya Shiwalkar National Coordinator and Developmental Pediatrician elaborated on study-skill and career guidance for the students with learning disabilities.

This was followed by a question-answer session and a vote of thanks.The total beneficiaries were about 50.

Medical Health Camp for Special Needs Children , Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, Sunday 28 February 2021

COMHAD India Chapter in liaison with Indian Academy of Pediatrics Bengaluru (Bengaluru Pediatric Society), BAHA (Bengaluru Adolescent Health Academy), and Foundation for Action, Motivation, and Empowerment-India (FAME India) organized a medical health camp for the children with special needs at Bengaluru – close to RV Metro, midway between Jayanagar and RV Metro, on Sunday, 28 February 2021.

The children were checked by the doctors attending the camp, given the medicines if required, and along with their parents guided with health tips.Total beneficiaries were about 90.

Webinar on World Hearing Week/Day Celebration, Nagpur, MS, India, 5 March 2021

The webinar on the World Hearing Day celebration was organized by COMHAD in association with the Academy of Pediatrics (AOP) Nagpur on Friday, 5 March 2021 at 5 PM (IST) on the Zoom virtual platform, on the occasion of the celebration of World Hearing Week.

The program started with a welcome speech by Dr. Yashwant Patil International President COMHAD with a short introduction to COMHAD. Followed by Dr. Uday Bodhankar Executive Director COMHAD and Patron of AOP, welcomed all dignitaries and gave an introduction of Webinar and stressed for need for the academic activity for the welfare of children.

The distinguished faculties for this seminar were eminent persons from WHO and its associates involved with welfare programs of WHO. We were honored to get such eminent faculties with the immense efforts of Dr. Uday Bodhankar only.

Hon. Dr. Arun Agrawal, Former Director-General of Health Services GOI and Former Dean gave his personal comment, about his initiative in promoting the welfare of specially challenged children with Hearing Disabilities.

Hon. Dr. Patanjali Dev Nayar, Regional Adviser, World Health Organization, SEARO (South-East Asia Regional Office), for Disability& Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation, Department of Healthier Populations and Non-Communicable Diseases, WHO. He spoke on “Integrated people-centered Ear and Hearing Care: WHO perspective”. In his presentation, he deliberated the various programs and initiatives by WHO and Government for hearing problems children and hearing aids.

Hon. Dr. Suneela Garg, President OMAG, President IAPSM, and Professor in PSM at Maulana Azad Medical College New Delhi, spoke on “National program for prevention and control of deafness” and explained various National programs by GOI for hearing problems and hearing aids in a most lucid manner.

Hon. Dr. Seema Kapoor, Director Genetics at Maulana Azad Medical College New Delhi spoke on “Mission NEEV as a pilot...” and explained about the NEEV project and need for early new-born screening including OAE and ABRR, along with Thyroid screening of all neonates and need of joining hands with all to prevent the hearing disability.

Other prominent people who expressed their views on Hearing disabilities were Dr.Mrudula Phadke madam, Dr.M S Rawat sir, Dr.Sunil Khaparde in the august presence of Dr.Digant Shashtri Past President CIAP, along with Dr. Sangita Yadav National Vice President CIAP & Dr.Jayant Updahye National Vice president CIAP, Dr.Anil Raut National EBM CIAP, Dr. Alok Gupta Jaipur, Dr. Prachi Rathi from Florida USA and eminent professionals from various sectors and NGO and media persons.

The program was very well moderated by Dr. Jaya Shiwalkar, Developmental Pediatrician and National Coordinator COMHAD.

Global Webinar on Keeping Public Spaces safe: Ultraviolet Germicidal Light for Air Disinfection in the Era of Covid-19, India,13 March 2021

The Global Webinar on Keeping Public Spaces safe: Ultraviolet Germicidal Light for Air Disinfection in the Era of Covid-19, was organized by COMHAD in association with AeroMed Technologies LCC USA and ServiceMaster Clean India on Saturday, 13 March 2021 at 6 PM (IST) on Zoom virtual platform.

With the initiative of Dr. Sunil Khaparde Advisor COMHAD & Advisor Public Health MHFW, GOI and the efforts of Mr. Bill Palmer (AeroMed USA), Mr. Neeral Kak (Director AQUITY Innovations USA) in addition to Ms. Priyanka Kamble & Mr. Imran of ServiceMaster Clean India together helped the webinar planning meticulously.

The program started with a welcome speech by Dr. Yashwant Patil International President COMHAD with a short introduction to Webinar and COMHAD.

We were honored with the Opening Speech by Hon. Padma Shree Dr. Vikas Mahatme, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha GOI. In his address, he stressed how useful will be the UVC 254 light in our highly populated country India and assured his kind help for the implementation of this technology in India for the benefit of the community.

Followed by Dr. Uday Bodhankar Executive Director COMHAD moderated the program with par excellence with positive remarks on deliberations by various eminent faculties.

The distinguished faculties for this seminar were eminent people with expertise in the field of the use of Ultraviolet Germicidal UVC 254 light for Air Disinfection.

Dr. Sunil Khaparde Advisor Public Health GOI elaborated on the Epidemiology of Airborne Diseases in the context of Air Disinfection. Mr. Bill Palmer, Vice President AeroMed Technologies LCC USA and recognized expert in the use of UVC 254 light gave a brief introduction on UVC 254 light.

Dr. Rohit Sarin, Former Director NITRD, Member of National Task Force Covid-19 GOI, spoke on Overview of Upper Room UVC 254 – Implementation in India. In his speech, he elaborated on how UVC254 light is effective in some setups in India and the importance and cost-effectiveness of its implementation in India.

Dr. Paul Jensen, the Former Member of CDC USA and Member of End TB Transmission Initiative, explained lucidly the application and installation of UVC254 light in various setups properly in rooms, Air-conditioners, and their vents.

This was followed by a Panel discussion which was moderated by Dr. Paul Jensen. The Panellists were Dr. Sarman Singh Director AIIMS Bhopal, Dr. Nerges Mistry Director Foundation of Medical Research Mumbai, and Prof Dr H. Paramesh Pediatric Pulmonologist & Environmentalist and National President COMHAD India Chapter.

Attending delegates were from all over the world who actively participated through intelligent questions to the faculties. These include representatives from IAP, NNF, COMHAD UK, UNICEF, WHO, Media, Therapists, Advocates, Industrialists, and community plus various NGOs. Lastly, the whole Webinar was summarised point to point meticulously by Hon Padma Shree Dr. D. Behera Chairman National Task Force for TB Elimination Program and Covid-10 Task Force – Clinical Research and Former Dean PGIMS.

Later Dr. D. Behera suggested that we should send the appeal on the basis of inference from this Webinar to ICMR and DGIMS for further action at the Government level for its implementation in India at a large scale.This was followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Sunil Khaparde Advisor COMHAD.
